Blumenthal, Ralph. "Scholars Seek the Hidden Freud in Newly Emerging Letters," New York
Times, 18 August 1981, pp. C1, C3.
This announces the plan to publish the Freud-Fliess correspondence in its entirety.
Anna Freud and Kurt Eissler had agreed to the editing by Jeff Masson of the surviving letters.
Eissler had convinced Anna Freud that Masson could show the world that there was nothing to
hide in the previously bowdlerized correspondence.
Blumenthal is just announcing that the letters will be published and that perhaps it will be
possible to develop some new images of Freud through them.
