A few pages earlier in this issue, Jeremy Rifkin warns that the AIDS virus may escape from labs.
(See Booth's article in this issue, pp. 341-343.) In that article Booth opines that Rifkin is being
alarmist in his ravings about the dangers of biotechnology. Now this.
There is very good evidence that the infection of one worker has already occurred as a result of
his exposure to very high concentrations of the virus in a laboratory. It is not supposed to happen
that way but it apparently did. NIH will have to look into this because of the occupational factors
