Benefits of Abuab

Under the scientific name lophopetalum celebicus, abuab is a tree growing as high as 50 meters. Its leaves are often 15 to 18 centimeters long with smooth texture and are oblong in shape. It flowers are greenish white with 5 petals in about 1 centimeter in diameter. Its fruits are leathery and smooth, growing up to 12 centimeters in length and 2.5 centimeters in width.

In the Philippines, abuab’s thickened bark sap is used by Negritos and other natives to poison the tips of their arrows. Its timber is used for light construction, furniture, plywood and paneling.
