With the scientific name premna integrifolia, alagau-gubat is also known as the headache tree in English. It is known to be native in East Africa, India, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Polynesia and Melanesia. In the Philippines, alagau-gubat can be found in secondary forests at low altitudes in Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, and Camarines provinces.

Alagau-gubat is primarily used as cardiotonic, adaptogenic, antibiotic, anticoagulant, stomachic, carminative, hepatoprotective, galactagogue, laxative. Its stem bark contains three alkaloids: premnine, ganiarine, and ganikarine.
