With the scientific name floscopa scandens, this plant is also known as climbing flower cup in English. It usually grows in wet places along streams at low and medium altitudes, in most or all islands and provinces in the Philippines. It also grows in India, Indo-China, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China, through Malaya to tropical Australia.

It is believed that aligbangon is used to treat broken bones. In some places, leaf paste is used to treat poisonous stings, leaf juice used for sore eyes; others include febriluge, abscesses, pyodermas, and nephritis.
