Benefits of Alikbangon

With the scientific name commelina nudiflora, this plant is also known as Jie hie cao in Chinese. Alikbangon is pantropic which commonly grows throughout the Philippines in open grasslands and waste places in settled areas at low and medium altitudes.

Alikbangon is known to have febrifuge, rubefacient, diuretic, blood coagulant, antifebrile, antidote, and tonic, antifungal, and antibacterial effect. Concentrated boiled alikbangon decoction and drink are believed to cure fever symptoms due to infection. It can also treat burns, itches and boils when applied to the affected area. Other uses may include treating mumps, difficult urination, acute gastroenteritis, erysipelas, laryngopharyngitis, tonsillitis, and colds.
