Benefits of Alipung
With a scientific name gmelina philippensis, it is also known as asiatoc beechberry and Asian bushbeech in English. This plant species commonly grows in thickets and secondary forests in Cagayan, Benguet, Pangasinan Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Panay at low and medium altitudes. There are also reports showing that Alipung is also grown in Siam, Cochin-China.
Alipung’s fruit juice is commonly applied to the area of skin affected by “alipunga” (a kind of eczema). It is also used as a repellant to limatik specie of leech). Fruit poultice pounded with lime is used to treat coughs when applied to the throat. Dropsy can also be cured by a mixture of alipung fruit, with lime and garlic applied to the body.
