Benefits of Api-api
With its scientific names avicennia officinalis, avicennia oepata, and avicennia obovata, this plant is also known as Indian mangrove in English. It typically grows in the provinces of Quezon, Camarines, Mindoro, Palawan, Samar, Negros, Mindanao, along muddy seashores and tidal streams. It can also grow in India, Southern China, Taiwan, Malaya, and New Guinea.
Api-api has aphrodisiac and cicatrizing effect. Snake bites are treated through resin from the api-api sapwood. Its seeds are also boiled in water to make maturative poultices and ciccatrizant of ulcers. The whole plant decoction mixed with sugar and cumin is also used to treat dyspepsia with acid eructations.
