Benefits of Azucena
With its scientific name polianthes tuberosa, this plant is also known as polyanthus lily and tuberose in English. It is cultivated for its fragrant flowers. The smell of azucena is somewhat similar to that of gardenias but can be more cloying. If left in a small, closed room, their odor can be overpowering.
Azucena has a diuretic, emetic, maturative, and aphrodisiac effect that is why unmarried women in India are advised to avoid its scent after dark. It is believed to treat conditions such as gonorrhea, formation of pus in boils, spasms, malaria, burns, infections, and swellings.
