Benefits of Bakalanga
This creeping herb is commonly known as “Tropical Chickweed” or “Heartleaf drymary” in English. It comes with scientific name Drymaria cordata. Bakalanga is commonly found in moist areas, clearings, and grasslands. The leaves and young shoots are edible and sometimes added to salad and other dishes.
In some countries, they used Bakalanga for snake bites, painful and febrile conditions. It is also used for toothaches, dysentery, burns, cough fever, headaches, pneumonia and sinusitis. Aside from being an appetizer, Bakalanga is also considered as antidote, depurative, emollient, febriguge, laxative and stimulant. Based on study findings, it can be used as anti-Inflammatory, analgesic/antipyretic, anxiolytic and antitussive.
