Bakong, with a scientific name Crinum asiaticum, is also known as “Spider Lily” in Englsh. It is occasionally cultivated as ornamental plant for its attractive and showy flowers. It is typically found along sandy seashores, or sometimes planted inland throughout the Philippines. Also, it is widely distributed in other Asian countries such as China, India, South Korea, Myanmar, Japan and Sri Lanka.

Aside from being a wonderful ornament, it can also aid different ailments due to its wonderful medicinal components. In fact, it is an effective astringent, analgesic and emollient. The plant extract can be used as anti inflammatory and antibacterial. The juice of leaves is instilled in the ear to treat otitis or used for earaches and other ear complaints. Poultice is used for osteodynia and rheumatism, contusion, sprains, fractures and luxations.
