Biddle, Wayne. "Pentagon Puts a Ripple in Defense Contractor's Cash Flow," New York Times,
10 March 1985, p. E3.
There have been Congressional hearings and dozens of articles on the latest scandals involving
General Dynamics and its practices of billing - and mayhap bilking - the DOD on military
procurement. It seems that now even the Secretary of Defense is willing to take a hard look at
what the government gets asked to pay for. Weinberger has ordered a halt to payments to General
Dynamics until some items can be checked. For example, has the government been paying for the
boarding of a pet? Is the DOD paying for executive entertainment?
Some on Capitol Hill have been highly critical of Defense even in this presumed "crackdown."
These abuses have existed for years and everybody knows it.
