Benefits of Agi
Agi also known as red stem fig and ”Covellia racemifera” (scientific name) belongs to Moraceae family. Agi (Ficus variegata) is one of about 900 fig trees, each one pollinated with its own fig wasp, common in the forest at low and medium altitudes from Cagayan to Sorsogon in Luzon, in Palawan and Mindanao. It is also occurs in Malay Peninsula and in Southern China.
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a food, medicine and source of wood and wax.The roots are used as an antidote, the bark and the fruit are used as a remedy for dysentery, the latex is applied topically in the treatment of cuts. And it is also a source of wax which is used in Batik work. And it is also used as antioxidant and Antiacetylcholine Esterase Potential.
