Benefits of Bakaig
In English, this plant is also known as “Nickernut” or “Yellow nicker”. With a scientific name Caesalpinia crista, this smooth, climbing shrub can reach 10 meters or more in length. Bakaig is known as Pantropic. Thus, it is typically found in tidal swamps or in thickets along the seashore throughout the Philippines.
Bakaig, like some other herbal plants, have a lot of health benefits to offer. In Philippines, it is used as emetic and for dysentery. In India, it is used as diuretic and used for cases with stone in the bladder. It is also used externally as application for ophthalmia. According to studies, it can be used as antioxidant, anthelmintic, memory enhancers, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antimicrobial and antimalarial. Also, this plant can be used as Antidiabetic and Anticancer.
