Benefits of Baket
In English, it is known as “Japanese false blueberry” and comes with the scientific name Coriaria intermedia. This is not your typical blueberry because it is known to be toxic and poisonous. This shrub grows from 1 to 3 meters high and typically found in ravines, at an altitude of 1,400 to 2,000 meters in Bontoc, Lepanto and Benguet in the Mountain Province. It is also found in Taiwan.
Studies have shown that decoction of leaves and fruits are known to be deadly poisonous. It is recognized as one of the most neurotoxic plants in the Mediterranean area. In fact, few berries may induce digestive and neurologic manifestations including seizures, coma and apnea.
