Benefits of Kamote

This is a popular plant which is commonly known as “Sweet potato” in English. Kamote comes with a scientific name Ipomoea batatas. It is a warm season crop broadly cultivated in the Philippines. Kamote is known to be introduced by the Spaniards from Mexico in the early colonial period. Actually, it is cultivated in all warm countries and can be planted any time of the year. It is easily propagated from stem cutting.

The leaves and its roots are edible. It is actually a staple food crop in some countries. Besides, it is valued as nutritious crop. In fact, kamote has a higher nutritional value than the common potato. It is a good source of vitamins A, B and C, iron, calcium and phosphorus.
