Benefits of Yacon
With its scientific name smallanthus sonchifolius, this plant is also called the “Earth apple”, “Peruvian ground apple”, “Potato bean” or the “Yacon strawberry” in English. This species is known to be cultivated originally in the Andean highlights. It was just recently introduced in the Philippines and was then cultivated in the Mountain Province. It can also be found in China and Japan.
Yacon contains hypoglycemic, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-diabetic properties. It has also a liver—protector effect. It is also believed to help cure conditions such as diabetes, kidney and bladder problems, cystitis, hepatosis, nephrosis, myalgias, and rheumatism.
